5.0/51 Reviews

Providing individual management plans and treatment for dogs and cats suffering from chronic pain related to conditions such as osteoarthritis and neuropathic pain.

James qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon from the Royal Veterinary College in 1998, and worked in a number of first opinion practices in Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset. From the earliest days of his career he was passionate about managing pain in his patients, and dedicated himself to undertaking additional training in the field. He now has over ten years additional expert experience of researching and treating pain in animals. He has been awarded a Masters degree and PhD from the University of Bristol for investigations into the mechanisms and treatment of pain in dogs and cats, and is an RCVS recognised Specialist in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics, and Law. He is asked to speak on pain management internationally. He co-authored the chapter on chronic pain management in the BSAVA guide to pain management in small animal practice, and provides advice and training to veterinary staff. He is an assessor for the IVAPM Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner case log and member of the IVAPM education committee. Pet Pain Relief provides a visiting referral pain clinic service to your home or primary vet practice, and works closely with your regular veterinary surgeon and allied professionals to optimise pain management care. In his spare time James can be found attempting to train his collie and golden retriever dogs
